Peacock Free Crochet Pattern

Hello amigurumi lovers and beautiful visitors, I wanted to share the free amigurumi patterns for you here. In my article I will share 1 pattern and how to make it for you. At the end of my article, I will share amigurumi patterns that can generate ideas for you.

Peacock Free Crochet Pattern

All patterns are written in US terms using Craft Yarn Council abbreviations.

You Need to Know:

Chains (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), increases and decreases, mattress stitch sewing. Be eager to learn and ready to have fun!

Supplies

  • Red Heart With Love, 100% acrylic, worsted weight, 370 yds/ 7 oz / 198 g per ball, 200 yds Peacock (PEA), 200 yds Lettuce (GRN), 100 yds Iced Aqua (AQU), 100 yds Light Grey (GRY), 100 yds Black (BLK), <50 yds White (WHT).
  • Red Heart Super Saver, 100% acrylic, worsted weight, 364 yds/ 7 oz / 198 g per ball, <100 yds Warm Brown (BRN).
  • Furls Odyssey G (4.00 mm) hook
  • Furls Odyssey H (5.00 mm) hook
  • Two 15mm colored safety eyes
  • Polyfil stuffing
  • Tapestry needle
  • Straight pins (optional)
  • 2 6” wooden dowels (optional)

Measurements

11″ tall x 18″ long from beak to tail

Gauge

Gauge is not important for amigurumi. Be sure to use the same hook throughout to ensure proportional size.

Pattern Stitches

  • Single Crochet Join – Sc join: Put slip knot over hook, insert hook through st, yo, pull though stitch, yo, pull through both loops on hook. Sc created.
  • Loop Stitch Join – Loop-st join: With slip knot over hook, insert hook through st, wrap yarn over finger, pull left side of loop behind right side of loop and pull through the stitch, yo, pull through both loops on hook. Loop-st created.
  • Loop Stitch – Loop-st: Insert hook through st, wrap yarn over finger, pull left side of loop behind right side of loop and pull through the stitch, yo, pull through both loops on hook. Loop-st created.

Pattern Notes

  • Work in continuous rounds, do not slip stitch to join unless otherwise directed by pattern.
  • Changes for Tail Feather sizes are written Small (Medium, Long, Extra-Long).
  • Ch-3 at beginning of Rounds count as dc.

Instructions

Head

(Begins at curve of neck.)

With PEA, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12)

Leg

(Make 2)

With GRY, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 8 sc in second ch from hook. (8)

Stuff firmly.

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Loose Toes

(Make 4)

With GRY, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Rnds 2-6: Sc evenly around. (6)

Bind off and weave in ends.

Last Toe and Foot

(Make 2, using 2 loose toes on each foot)

With GRY, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Rnds 2-6: Sc evenly around. (6)

Rnd 7: 3 sc on first loose toe, 6 sc on second loose toe, 3 sc on unworked sts of first loose toe, 6 sc on starting toe. (18)

Stuff first three toes firmly.

Rnd 8: [sc, dec] 6 times. (12)

Rnd 9: 6 dec. (6)

Rnds 10-14: Sc evenly around. (6)

Stuff remainder of foot firmly. Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Thread yarn through front loops of remaining 6 sts, pull tight to close. Thread tail through last toe and up through foot at Round 9. This tail will be used to attach foot to leg.

Using tail from Foot, sew closed end of leg to foot, centered over connecting point of three toes. Repeat with second Leg and Foot.

Stuff legs firmly.

Attach legs to body between rounds 42 and 44 on the body, on the side of the body closes to the head, close enough together for the toes to touch (about 5 sts apart). Pin first. Legs need to be centered under the peacock’s shoulders. If using dowels, do not firmly stuff legs. After attaching leg, insert dowels down through shoulder and into open end of legs.

Beak

With GRY, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)

Rnd 2: Sc evenly around.

Rnd 3: [Sc, inc] 3 times. (9)

Rnd 4: Sc evenly around.

Rnd 5: [2 sc, inc] 3 times. (12)

Rnd 6: Sc evenly around.

Rnd 7: [3 sc, inc] 3 times. (15)

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Stuff.

Attach to Head at Round 16.

Nostrils

Thread needle with scrap BLK yarn.

Insert needle close to Beak, coming up through Beak at Round 6, even with eye.

Thread needle down through work one stitch left and come up through Beak at Round 6, even with other eye.

Thread needle down through work one stitch right and come up through starting point of first nostril.

Pull firmly to pull nostrils together, pinching beak slightly. Repeat. Bind off and hide ends.

Round Feather

(Make 1)

With PEA, ch 4.

Rnd 1: 9 dc in 4th ch from hook, change to AQU, 2 dc in same ch. (12)

Rnd 2: Inc in next 11 sts, change to BRN, inc in next st. (24)

Rnd 3: [sc, inc] 12 times. (36)

Rnd 4: Change to GRN, 36 loop-st, sl st in 1st st to join. (36)

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Tail Feathers

(Make 2 small, 3 medium, 2 long, and 1 extra-long.

With PEA, ch 4.

Rnd 1: 9 dc in 4th ch from hook, change to AQU, 2 dc in same ch. (12)

Rnd 2: Inc in top of ch-3, inc in next 10 sts, change to BRN, inc in next st. (24)

Rnd 3: [sc, inc] 11 times, sl st, ch 15(25,35,45). Bind off.

Rnd 4: With GRN, loop-st join  in last ch, loop-st in next 14(24,34,44) chs, loop-st in 35 sts around feather, loop-st in bottom of next 15(25,35,45) chs. Sl st in 1st st to join.

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing. Weave in all other ends.

Sew each feather to body in the pattern shown. Each row of feathers is 3 rounds apart. Feathers are staggered. Sew each feather through two stitches on the body to secure feather. Sew feathers of the same length together at the point where the widest points touch. This will allow them movement while remaining in place.  

Wings

(Make 2)

Hold one strand of GRY and one strand of BLK together.

Using H hook, ch 2.

Row 1: 3 sc in second ch from hook. Turn. (3)

Row 2: Ch 1, 3 sc. Turn. (3)

Row 3: Ch 1, inc, sc, inc. Turn. (5)

Row 4: Ch 1, 5 sc. Turn. (5)

Row 5: Ch 1, inc, 3 sc, inc. Turn. (7)

Row 6: Ch 1, 7 sc. Turn. (7)

Row 7: Ch 1, inc, 5 sc, inc. Turn. (9)

Rows 8-12: Ch 1, 9 sc. Turn. (9)

Row 13: Ch 1, dec, 5 sc, dec. Turn. (7)

Row 14: Ch 1, 7 sc. Turn. (7)

Row 15: Ch 1, dec, 3 sc, dec. Turn. (5)

Row 16: Ch 1, 5 sc. Turn. (5)

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

Sew wings to body along a slanted line at the shoulder, starting at Round 23, overlapping tail feathers. Optional: Tack down tip of wings to tail feathers.

Finishing

Face Markings: Using WHT, Thread yarn from edge of beak to st 2 rounds behind safety eye. Stretch yarn in arch above safety eye. Repeat through same sts with two strands stretched below safety eye. Repeat with other eye.

Crest: Cut two 6” pieces of GRN. Fold in half. Insert hook along centerline of head, perpendicular to beak, in line with back side of safety eyes. Loop yarn over hook and pull through st, wrap yarn over hook and pull through loop on hook. Knot created. Pull tight. Repeat one st back. Cut to even lengths.
