Crochet Locomotive Free Pattern

Hello amigurumi lovers and beautiful visitors, I wanted to share the free amigurumi patterns for you here. In my article I will share 1 pattern and how to make it for you. At the end of my article, I will share amigurumi patterns that can generate ideas for you.

You will need:

  • woolen yarn in 2 threads of any 4 colors + gray;
  • a 3 mm hook or any other, so that the final work holds the filler well;
  • needle with a large eye.

Abbreviations:
CR = circular row
RLS = single crochet st
= loop
ch = air loop
dec. = decrease

Chassis
12 ch, 1 ch, deploy.
Row 1-25:  12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 26:  12 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Locomotive

Locomotive front

Half of KR 1:  4 sts in an amigurumi ring, ch 1, turn.
Half of CR 2 : 2 sc in each stitch (8) ch 1, turn.
Half CR 3:  8 sc, ch 1, turn.
Half of CR 4:  2 sc in each st. (16) ch 1, turn.
Half of CR 5:  16 sc
Row 1:  12 sc along the straight edge of the semicircle, ch 1, turn.
Row 2-7: 12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 8:  12 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

The upper part of the locomotive
ch 42, ch 1, deploy.
Row 1-15:  42 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 16:  42 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Driver’s booth

The back of the booth
ch 12, ch 1, deploy.
Row 1-17:  12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 18:  12 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

The upper part of the booth
54 ch, 1 ch, deploy.
Row 1-9:  54 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 10:  54 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

The front of the booth
ch 12, ch 1, deploy.
Row 1-5:  12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 6:  12 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Wheels: 4 pcs.

They are knitted in the usual way, but then they must be turned inside out. It turns out an unusual texture.

4 sc in the amigurumi ring.
CR 1:  2 SC in each st. (8)
CR 2:  2 SC in each st. (16)
CR 3:  (2 SC in the first st, 1 SC) x 8 times (24)
CR 4:  (2 SC in the first p., 2 PRS) x 8 times (32)
KR 5-6: 32 PRS
KR 7:  (Decrease, 2 PRS) x 8 times (24)
KR 8:  (Decrease, 1 PRS) x 8 times (16 ) Fill the wheel!
KP 9:  dec x 8 times (8)
Break yarn, pull through st, pull through last 8th st and pull tight.

Pipe
21 VP, close to the first VP using the conn. st. to get a ring.
KP 1-9: SC  21
KR 10:  (SC 2 in first st, SC 2) x 7 times (28)
Row 11-13:  28 Sc, break yarn and pull yarn through last st to bind off.
Turn the top 4 rows outward to form a neckline.

Clutch  (the part that connects the locomotive to the cars)
ch 5, ch 1, turn
Row 1-3:  5 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 4:  Sc 1, ch 3, sc in last st, ch 1, turn.
Row 5:  5 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Assembling the locomotive
Sew the back of the driver’s cab to the base, then following the same pattern, sew the top of the cab and then the back.
Sew the front of the cabin to the center of the top of the cabin.
Sew the front of the locomotive onto the base at the correct angle.
Sew the top of the locomotive to the base, respecting the shape of the front. Sew the top of the locomotive to the front.
The top of the cab and the top of the locomotive must touch, stuff, and then sew together.
Sew the pipe in place.
Sew wheels in place.
Sew clutch into place.

Trailers (4 pcs.)

You will need:

  • woolen yarn in 2 threads of any 4 colors + gray;
  • a 3 mm hook or any other, so that the final work holds the filler well;
  • a needle with a large eye;
  • buttons approximately 1 cm in diameter.

Abbreviations:
CR = circular row
RLS = single crochet st
= loop
ch = air loop
dec. = decrease

The outer side  (the result should be the shape of a cross)
ch 12, ch 1, unfold.
Row 1-9:  12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 10:  12 sc, ch 12, ch 1, turn.
Row 11:  24 sc, ch 12, ch 1, turn.
Row 12-21 : 36 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 22:  24 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 23-31:  12 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 32:  12 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Inner part  (you should end up with a cross shape)
ch 8, ch 1, turn
Row 1-5:  8 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 6:  8 sc, ch 8, ch 1, turn.
Row 7:  16 sc, ch 8, ch 1, turn.
Row 8-14:  24 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 15:  16 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 16-21:  8 sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 22:  8 sc, break yarn and pull through last st to bind off.

Top  (knitted in circular rows)
40 ch
KR 1:  4 sc, (2 sc in the next p., 2 sc in the next p., 8 sc) x 3 times, 2 sc in the next. p., 2 sc in the next. p., 4 PRS (48)
KR 2:  5 PRS, (2 PRS in the next p., 2 PRS in the next p., 10 PRS) x 3 times, 2 PRS in the next. p., 2 sc in the next. p., 5 PRS (56)
KR 3:  6 PRS, (2 PRS in the next p., 2 PRS in the next p., 12 PRS) x 3 times, 2 PRS in the next. p., 2 sc in the next. p., 6 RLS (64)
Connection. st., break the thread and pull it through the last loop to close.

Assembling the product
Fold two cruciform pieces in the form of cubes without a top and sew along the edges. Put 2 cm of filler around the edges into a larger cube and insert a smaller cube inside. Sew on top and clutch A at the front and clutch B at the back. Sew a button on clutch A and sew on the wheels.

Hide the ends of the threads and shout: “Choo-choo!” The last instruction is mandatory 🙂
