Red Robin Free Crochet Pattern

YARN: Light (3) in Brown, Orange and White; Classic Cotton Thread in Black

MATERIALS: C2 – 2.75 mm Hook; 1.75 mm hook; Poly Filling; Two 6mm Black Plastic Safety Eyes; Yarn Needle

DIMENSION: 3” x 2.5”

ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), chain (ch), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), fasten off (F/O)

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

HEAD (brown and orange yarn; 2.75mm hook)

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 5: 12 sc, switch to orange yarn, 8 sc, switch back to brown yarn, 12 sc (32)

Rnd 6: keep working with brown yarn, 11 sc, switch to orange yarn, 10 sc, switch back to brown yarn, 11 sc (32)

Rnd 7: keep working with brown yarn, 10 sc, switch to orange yarn, 12 sc, switch back to brown yarn, 10 sc (32)

Rnd 8: keep working with brown yarn, 9 sc, switch to orange yarn, 14 sc, switch back to brown yarn, 9 sc (32); F/O and cut the yarn.

TAIL (brown yarn; 2.75mm hook)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a mr (6)

Rnd 2: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep twice (8)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (12)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (16)

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (20)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (28)

Rnd 8: sc even (28)

Do not cut the yarn once you have completed the tail.

BODY (brown, orange and white yarn; 2.75mm hook)

Merge the head and the tail together:

Rnd 11: join the brown yarn with a sl st to stitch #30 of the last rnd of the head, ch 1 and sc in the same st, then crochet 5 sc, switch to orange yarn, work 16 sc, switch back to brown yarn, work 6 sc; now go back working on the tail part – insert the hook into st #28 of the last round of the tail, work 1 sc, then work 27 sc, until you reach the end of the round (56)

Rnd 20: keep working with brown yarn, 1 sc, switch to white yarn, 9 sc, switch back to brown yarn, 14 sc (24)

Rnd 21: keep working with brown yarn, 1 sc, switch to white yarn, [(1 sc dec, 1 sc) rep 3 times], switch back to brown yarn, 1 sc dec, [(1 sc, 1 sc dec) rep 4 times] (16); finish stuffing the body

Rnd 22: working with brown yarn only, sc dec around (8); F/O, cut the yarn and wave in end.

BEAK ( black thread; 1.75mm hook)

Rnd 1: 4 sc in a mr (4)

Rnd 2: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep twice (6)

Rnd 3: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (8)

Rnd 3: sc even (8); F/O and leave a long strand of thread to sew the beak onto the head between rnds # 6-9.

WINGS ( brown yarn; make two; 2.75mm hook)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a mr (6)

Rnd 2: 2 sc inc, 2 hdc inc, 2 sc inc (12)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep twice, 1 hdc, 2 hdc inc, 1 hdc, (1 sc inc, 1 sc) rep twice (18)

Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep twice, 2 hdc, 3 hdc in the next st, 1 ch, 3 hdc in the next st, 2 hdc, (1 sc inc, 2 sc) rep twice (26); F/O and leave a long strand of brown yarn.

Sew only the first and last 2 sts of the wing to the side of the bird’s body.
