Mallard Duck Free Crochet Pattern

YARN: Light (3) – Green, Beige, Brown, Gray, Yellow, Orange; Cotton Thread in Black

MATERIALS: 2.5 mm Hook; Poly Filling; Two 6 mm Black Plastic Safety Eyes

DIMENSION: 6” x 4”

ABBREVIATIONS: magic ring (mr), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), fasten off (F/O)

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner SEAMLESSLY COLOR CHANGE: Work in the color A until two loops of the last stitch remain on the hook. Use the color B to complete the stitch.

BODY (green, beige, brown and gray yarn)

Rnd 1: starting off with green yarn, 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc inc around (16)

Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (24)

Rnd 4: sc even (24)

Rnd 5: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (32)

Rnd 6 – 11: sc even (32)

Place the safety eyes between rnds # 5-6, 9 stitches apart.

Rnd 12: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (24)

Rnd 13: (2 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (18)

Rnd 14: (7 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (16)

Rnd 15: (6 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (14)

Rnd 16: sc even (14); start stuffing the body

Rnd 17: switch to beige yarn, sc even (14)

Rnd 18: sc even (14)

Rnd 19: switch to brown yarn, (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (21)

Rnd 20 – 21: sc even (21)

Rnd 22: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (28)

Rnd 23 – 24: sc even (28)

Rnd 26: switch to gray yarn, sc even (35)

F/O, cut the yarn, close the hole and wave in end.

BEAK (yellow yarn)

Rnd 1: 5 ch, 1 sc inc into the 2nd ch from the hook, 2 sc, 2 sc inc into the last ch, keep working on the other side of the foundation chain, 2 sc, 1 sc inc into the last ch that already contains 2 sc (12)

Rnd 2 – 5: sc even (12); do not stuff the beak

F/O and leave a long strand of yarn to sew the beak to the head of the mallard.

Embroider the NOSE marks with black cotton thread.

Embroider the EYEBROWS with black cotton thread, between rnds # 7-9, 7 sts apart.

WINGS (brown yarn; make two)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a mr (6)

Rnd 2: (1 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (9)

Rnd 3: (2 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (12)

Rnd 4: (3 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (15)

Rnd 5: (4 sc, 1 sc inc) rep around (18)

Rnd 6 – 9: sc even (18)

Rnd 10: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (15)

Rnd 11: (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep around (12)

Rnd 12: sc even (12)

Rnd 13: (4 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (10)

Rnd 14: (3 sc, 1 sc dec) rep twice (8); do not stuff the wing

Rnd 15: flatten the wing and crochet through bot layers now, 3 sc, 1 sl st (4)

F/O and leave a long strand of yarn to sew the wings to the side of the body, between rnds # 25-26.

FEET (orange yarn; make two)

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a mr (8)

Rnd 2: sc even (8)

Rnd 3: flatten the foot and work through both layers, 4 sc (4)

F/O and leave a long strand of yarn to sew the first rnd of the feet to the body, between rnds # 36-37.
