Product assembly
Hide the ends of the threads. Sew up the tip of the nose, head, body and tail. Turn the body wrong side out and sew the nose into the hole in the head. Turn out to the front. Insert eyes over the nose. Stuff tightly. Sew the tummy to the body with white yarn. Stuff the arms and legs. Sew to the body. Sew wings to the body. Sew ears and horns to the top of the head. Embroider a smile on the nose with cherry yarn. The amigurumi dragon is ready!

To make the dragon, we start by creating the head. We then make all of the head parts, such as the nose, horns, and ears. Next, we make the body. The body starts with two legs, then crochet the two legs together to form the body. We make the arms, chest, tail, wings, and finally you can make an optional tooth and cute eyes.

Tie a knot with the toe ends of yarn and weave them into the dragon.

Construction

This little dragon is as fun to make as he is to hug. Okay, almost as fun — nothing quite beats baby dragon hugs.

His body and tail are all one piece, starting at the tip of his tail and curving around so he lays on his back, tail between his legs.

His legs are done with branching and merging techniques. His wings are worked flat and then sewn to his back.

Edge of Wings

Starting on last st of Row 22 of Bottom of Wings, working up the side of the wings, sc join in the side of the last dc, sc in same space, 2 sc in the side of each dc row, Rows 22-15. Do not break yarn.

Now working in the exposed sts of Row 14 of the upper wings, sc, (sc, picot, sc) (see Special Stitches) in next st (center st of 3-dc), 17 sc, (sc, picot, sc) in next st, 15 sc, (sc, picot, sc) in last st of Rnd 14 of wings. Do not break yarn.

2 sc in the sides of each dc row, Rows 5-1, sc, in starting ch of wing tip, ch 4, (sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc) down ch, sc in starting ch of wing tip, 2 sc in the sides of each dc row, Rows 1-5. Bind off.

Do not work in the chains of Row 6.

Sc join in side of Row 5 of the next wing tip, sc in same sp, 2 sc in the sides of each dc row, Rows 4-1, sc, in starting ch of wing tip, ch 4, (sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc) down ch, sc in starting ch of wing tip, 2 sc in the sides of each dc row, Rows 1-5. Do not break yarn.

(Sc, picot, sc) in 1^st st of exposed Row 14 of upper wings, 15 sc, (sc, picot, sc) in next st (center of 3-dc), 17 sc, (sc, picot, sc) in next st, sc. Do not break yarn.

2 sc in sides of each dc row, Rows 15-22 of lower wings. Bind off.

Do not work last row of lower wing.

Wing Cartilage

Using pins, mark two straight lines on each wing from the peak of each wing to the picots on the bottom of each wing.

Using TEAL, loosely stitch a surface st (see Special Stitches), along the four marked straight lines.

Wing Attachment

Using pins, mark 10 sts centered on back of neck at Rnd 101, directly opposite the top of the belly scales.

Lay the wings on the back with the top borderless section between the wing tips and pin in place where stitches are marked. Lay the wings flat against the back.

The bottom of the wings should touch the last shortRnd of the body,Rnd 65, along the curve of the last short round. Pin wings in an arch over the last short round.

Wing SEA sewing tail from wings, sew bottom of wings to Rnd 65, sew through the body and through the flat part of the wing every few stitches straight up until you reach the other borderless section of wings pinned to Rnd 101, sewing through the back of the chains, sew wings to body between marked sts, sew back through the body and flat part of wings every few stitches straight down the back until you reach the bottom of wings again.

Back Spines

With TEAL, ch 66.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, hdc, (dc, picot (see Special Stitches), dc) in next st, hdc, sc, [sc, hdc, (dc, picot, dc) in next st, hdc, sc] 12 times. (13 spikes)

Bind off leaving long tail for sewing.

With pins, mark a line from between the ears, straight down the back, to the curve of the tail. Sewing through the starting ch of the spines, sew spines to body along marked line.

Weave in all attachment ends when parts are positioned as desired.

Assembling
Body:
Take some fiberfill and stuff the body tight to make it become firm.
Head:
The head must point downwards a little. It can be helpful to pin the head to the body first.
Sew through the stitches of the body and then through the head. And finally, stuff some extra fiberfill into the neck before closing it completely to avoid a wobbly head. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Horns:
Stuff a bit of fiberfill into the horns. Sew the horns onto Dirk’s head. Place the horns about 10 rounds above the eyes with about 12 stitches in between. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Ears:
Fold the ears in half and sew them together through 3 sts to make the ear become flat in one side. Now, sew it onto Dirk’s head. Place the ears about 2 rounds behind the horns, and 4 sts further out to each side than the horns. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Legs:
Stuff fiberfill into the legs. Stuff the bottom of the leg well and a little less in the actual leg.
Leave a small space at the top without stuffing. Place the legs under the tummy. They should point outward a bit. Sew the legs on about 8 rounds from the beginning of the body. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Tip: you can also crochet the legs together the same way as the spikes before sewing them onto the body.
Arms:
Stuff the arms with fiberfill. Stuff the bottom of the arm well and a little less in the actual arm.
Leave a small space at the top without stuffing. Sew the arms on about 2 rounds from the top of the neck. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Tip: you can also crochet the arms together the same way as the spikes before sewing them onto the body.
Tummy:
Sew the tummy on at the center of Dirk’s body. Sew through the front loop only. Be careful to keep the tummy flat while sewing it on to avoid that it bulges out. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Tip: Sew on the arms and legs before sewing on the tummy, this will make it easier to place the tummy nicely.
Spikes:
Sew the first three spikes onto the head. Place one between the ears, one in the middle of the back head and the last one at the bottom of the head.
Place the next two spikes evenly on the body and sew them on. And finally, sew the last spike onto the tail. Weave in ends thoroughly.
Tail:
Sew the tail onto the back of the body. Stuff the tail firmly with fiberfill. Pin the tail to the body before sewing it on to make sure that Dirk can keep his balance and sit by himself. Weave in ends thoroughly.
