Amigurumi Tropical Fish Crochet Pattern
Hello amigurumi lovers and beautiful visitors, I wanted to share the free amigurumi patterns for you here. In my article I will share 1 pattern and how to make it for you. At the end of my article, I will share amigurumi patterns that can generate ideas for you.
You will need:
- Orange medium weight yarn for body and fins
- Black yarn (small amount) for spots, stripes, head and small fins
- White felt – cut out small circles 2.5 cm in diameter under the eyes
- Black safety eyes (pair) 12 mm
- Hook 4 mm
- Polyester padding
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle (for stitching parts)
- Pins for fastening parts before stitching
Abbreviations:
sc = single crochet
dc = half double crochet
2 sc in one stitch = increase
2 sc together = decrease (2 stitches become one)
from * to * = repeat instructions indicated number of times
n = loop
1 ch = 1 air loop
KA = amigurumi ring
Please note:* Those elements that are knitted in circular rows should be knitted in a continuous spiral. Do not close rows unless otherwise indicated.* Place a stitch marker at the beginning of each row and move it as you finish each row.* Change colors using the last yarn over in the last stitch of the original color.* 1 chain stitch at the beginning of the circular row is not counted as a separate loop, unless otherwise indicated.
Head and body
Use black yarn
KP1: KA – 4 sc in the ring (4 loops)
KP2: *sc in the next. loop, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (6 loops)
KR3: * RLS in the next. 2 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (8 sts)
KR4: *SC in next. 3 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (10 sts)
KR5: *SC in next. 4 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (12 sts)
KR6: *SC in next. 2 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (16 sts)
KR7: *SC in next. 3 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (20 loops)
KR8: * Sc in the next. 3 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (25 loops)
KR9: * RLS in the next. 4 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (30 loops)
KP10: *SC in the next. 5 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (35 sts)
KR11: *SC in next. 4 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (42 loops)
KR12: *SC in the next. 6 sts, inc*, rep from * to * in the round (48 sts)
KR13: Sc in each st in the round (48 sts). Start stuffing and continue stuffing as you knit.
Change to orange yarn *see. indication below regarding the peephole *
KR14: * RLS in the next. 11 sts, inc*, repeat from * to * in the round (52 sts)
KR15-16: Sc in each st in the round (52 sts)
KR17: *SC in the next. 11 sts, inc*, rep from * to * in the round (48 sts)
KR18-21: Sc in each st in the round (4 rounds) (48 sts)
KP22: *SC in the next. 10 sts, 2 sc tog*, repeat from * to * in the round (44 sts)
KR23-32: Sc in each st in the round (10 rounds) (44 sts)
KR33: 2 sc tog, *sc in the next. 6 sts, 2 sc tog*, repeat from * to * around, sc in last 2 sts (38 sts)
KR34: *sc in next. 4 sts, 2 sc tog*, repeat from * to * around, 2 sc tog in last 2 sts (31 sts)
KR35: *sc in next. 3 loops, 2 sc tog *, repeat from * to * in a circle, sc in the last loop (25 loops)
KR36: * sc in the next. 3 loops, 2 sc tog *, repeat from * to * in a circle (20 loops)
KR37: * sc in the next. 2 sts, 2 sc tog*, repeat from * to * around (15 sts)
KR38: *sc in next. loop, 2 sc together *, repeat from * to * in a circle (10 loops)
KP39: *SC 2 together*, repeat from * to * in a circle.
Close the last loop and hide the end of the thread inside the fish. If you are using safety eyes, cut white felt circles 2.5 cm in diameter, cut a hole in the center and insert the eyes between the 8th and 9th rows of the head on each side of the head.
Upper and lower orange fins
Knit in the round. Orange yarn. Don’t hit. 2 pcs.
KR1: ch 18 – starting from the second loop from the hook, sc in the next. 16 sts, 3 sc in last ch (this will allow you to work across bottom of chain), sc in next. 15 sts, 3 sc in last st (37 sts)
KR2: 2 sc in next. loop, RLS in the next. 15 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. 17 loops, 2 sc in the next. 2 sts (39 sts)
KR3: Sc in the next. 15 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. 15 loops, 2 sc in the next. 3 loops, RLS in the next. 2 sts (40 sts)
KR4: Sc in the next. 15 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. 16 loops, 2 sc in the next. 3 loops, RLS in the next. 4 loops (42 loops)
KR5: RLS next. 11 stitches, 2 sc tog, 2 sc tog, 2 sc tog, sc next. 18 loops, do not knit the remaining loops. Fold flat and work sc along the hole to close it.
Cast off the last stitch, leaving a long tail for sewing on. Sew one fin to the top of the fish and the other to the bottom.
Tail Fin Knit
in the round. Don’t hit. 2 pcs.
KR1: KA – 4 RLS in the ring
KR2: * RLS in the next. loop, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (6 loops)
KR3: * RLS in the next. 2 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (8 sts)
KR4: *SC in next. 3 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (10 sts)
KR5: *SC in next. 4 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (12 sts)
KR6: *SC in next. 5 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (14 sts)
KR7: *SC in next. 5 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (12 sts)
KR8: *SC in next. 4 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (10 loops)
KR9: * RLS in the next. 3 loops, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (8 loops)
Close the last loop only at the first fin. Do not close the last loop at the second fin, but lock into another fin using the conn. Art. into the last knitted loop of the first tail fin. Continue knitting as follows:
KR10: RLS in the same loop in which the row closed, RLS in the next. 2 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. 2 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. 2 loops, 2 sc together, sc in the next. loop, 2 sc tog (12 loops)
KR11-12: sc in each loop in a circle (12 loops)
Cast off the last loop, leaving a long tail. Sew to the back of the body.
Lower fins
Black yarn. Knit in a circle. Don’t hit. 2 pcs.
KR1: KA – 4 RLS in the ring
KR2: * RLS in the next. loop, increase *, repeat from * to * in a circle (6 loops)
KR3: * RLS in the next. 2 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (8 sts)
KR4: *SC in next. 3 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (10 sts)
KR5: *SC in next. 4 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (12 sts)
KR6: *SC in next. 5 sts, inc*, rep from * to * around (14 sts)
KR7: *SC in next. 5 sts, 2 sc tog*, rep from * to * around (12 sts)
KR8: *sc in next. 4 loops, 2 sc tog *, repeat from * to * in a circle (10 loops)
KP9: *SC in the next. 3 sts, 2 sc tog*, repeat from * to * in the round (8 sts)
KP10: SC in each st in the round (8 sts)
K11: Fold flat and work SC along the hole to close it.
Cast off the last stitch, leaving a long tail for sewing on. Sew one fin on each side to the bottom of the fish at the junction of black and orange.
Stripes
of black yarn. 6 pcs.
30 ch. Starting from the second loop from the hook, conn. Art. in a trace. 7 loops, RLS in the next. 3 loops, PSN in the next. 9 loops, CH in the next. 3 loops, conn. Art. in the last 7 loops. Close the last loop, leaving a long tail. Sew 3 strips on each side of the fish.
Spots
of black yarn. Knit in a circle. 4 things.
KR1: KA – 6 sc in the ring (6 loops)
KR2: 3 sc in the next. loop, conn. Art. in a trace. 2 loops, 3 sc in the next. loop, conn. Art. in a trace. 2 loops. Cast off the last stitch, leaving a long tail for sewing on. Sew one on each tail fin.
Assembly
1) Insert the eyes into the slot on the white felt circles.
2) Center one of the large orange fins on top of the fish (see picture)
3) Center one of the big orange fins on the bottom of the fish (see picture)
4) Sew one black spot onto each tail fin (4 pcs)
5) Sew the tail to the back of the fish (hide the hole if you have one 🙂
6) Sew small black fins to the bottom of the fish on either side of the large orange fin at the front of the fish.
7) Sew 3 long strips on each side of the fish.
